With more than half a century of history behind it, La Manga Club has become, over the years, a landmark as a residential and sports & leisure holiday destination in south-eastern Spain.
La Manga Club´s history dates back to 1972, when the Californian born golfer and businessman Gregory Peters invested in the construction of a complex similar to those existing in America at the time being. Built in less than 11 months, it was a pioneer resort in Spain because it was dedicated almost exclusively to golf. La Manga Club was the first resort in Spain to open with 2 golf courses during a time when golf was practically unknown in the area where it was located.
The names of reknown golfers like Gary Player are related to the LMC golf courses, followed by golf directors Manuel Ballesteros, the brother of Severiano Ballesteros and Víctor García, the father of Sergio García. Over time, more facilities were added alongside these golf courses: a hotel, football fields and a centre with 28 tennis courts, and again Tennis Centre was managed by some of the greatest names in world tennis.
La Manga Club grew in size and reputation year after year thanks to the great golf, tennis and later football tournaments that have been held in its facilities. Despite the sports facilities having passed through different owners, thanks to its residential communities and the dedication of more than 2,200 homeowners spread throughout the resort, La Manga Club has always maintained its essence and reputation as a home from home for holidaymakers, destination for Work Nomads and paradise for full time residents
Today, La Manga Club, with 1400 acres, continues to be one of the most recognised sports and leisure holiday resorts in Europe.
